IRCNode Downtime Longer Than Expected
This post was originally written on blog.IRCNode.org. The IRCNode blog will have the latest news regarding the downtime.
Hey folks,
The downtime on IRCNode will be a bit longer than previously expected. The link to chat with me on the right of this page will not work during this time.
If you wish to chat on IRCNode, please conncet to saturn.ircnode.org directly via an IRC Client.
Thanks for your patience.
Good Day,
Due-to unforeseen complications with the Upgrade process, the time until Upgrade is completed has greatly increased. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, however we are working diligently as humanly possible to complete the Upgrade and obtain the type of stability you long to seek in a provider without broken promises.
An Open Letter To Detective Gonzales
Hello Detective Gonzales,
I wouldn’t be surprised if you do a simple google search on my name to try to determine my address. Sorry, that’s not happening. You do not need my address to interrogate me. Call me with the time and location, and I’ll show up.
I scored by having an address that you corrupt bastards don’t know. I’m not going to screw that up. You’re not ruining my life. I’ll jump ship and move to Canada far before you take away my rights.
Should you need to get in contact with me - call me. (303) 588 2376. Or send me an email - naresh@ragsites.com. Don’t think you can show up where I live though.
Best Regards,
Naresh Chandranatha

IRCNode Progress Update
I don’t talk about my IRC network on here very often, mainly because it’s never topical. However, I’m going to take the time to share some network stats with you lot. The site has been up for less than a month, and the growth has been pretty exciting. As I write this post, we have 15 people in our lobby, but hope to make that 30+ within a month.
First off, come chat with us! You’ll like it! You can connect to irc.ircnode.org and join #lobby, or simply go to IRCNode.org/chat and use our AJAX client (not Java!).
- Network Stats:
- Servers: 4 (3 in DNS pool, one trialling)
- earth.ircnode.org (hub)
- saturn.ircnode.org Donated By BoonCakes
- uranus.ircnode.org Donated By Mark Cole
- jupiter.ircnode.org Donated By In-Tur-Net (Note: this server is in a trial period - should become a big part of our network soon!)
- Registered Nicks: 27
- Registered Channels: 21
- Website Traffic: 70-120 unique hits daily (Why don’t they stay and chat?)
- #help Requests: None
If you’re in need of a chatroom for your website, or just want a place to hang out and get help with coding, photoshop, or anything else - hit us up! We’re always in #lobby.
A Nation Of Wimps
I was listening to the Mike Rosen show on 850 KOA, a conservative talk show in Denver, today. While I don’t usually agree with a lot of his viewpoints, today’s show hit home.
I’ll have a link to the “Rosen Replay”, the show in MP3 format, in a few hours time.
His guest, Hara Estroff Marano, wrote a book titled “A Nation Of Wimps” (Google Books, Amazon) and the show was focused on how over-protective parents are setting their children up for failure as adults. The author answered calls from listeners, and spoke about her book. I’ll be getting a copy of the book soon.
Over the course of the show, callers brought up topics including Field Day, Recess, and letting children play in the front yard of their house.
Field day is popular event in some US schools. Pupils are brought outside for the entire day where they compete in track and field events, obstacle courses, and some games. In my school, the day would often end in popsicles and a game of tug of war. In today’s schools, every student is given a “Participation Ribbon” as opposed to the best 3 students getting an award after each event. This promotes mediocrity in life, and as one caller mentioned, sets them up for failure while in a job search. (”I showed up, where’s my job?”)
In gym class when I attended school, dodge ball was something we all looked forward to. I was shocked to hear that it’s been taken out of most schools in my area due to the supposed danger caused by throwing foam balls. (Dodgeball Takes A Drubbing). If kids getting injured by a foam ball is becoming an epidemic, I think I have a solution.
We obviously need to wrap our children in bubble wrap. It’s the only way to protect them from the dangers of this world. Corners of tables, walls, and other furniture need to be wrapped as well, and warning signs need to be placed throughout our homes saying “CAUTION - FLOOR MAY BE SLIPPERY WHEN WET”, or “WATCH YOUR FEET, THERE ARE STAIRS HERE”. I also recommend leashing your children while in public, and forcing them to wear gas masks while in public, to prevent exposure to second hand smoke.
For gods sake people. While you may be thinking you’re the best parent out there because you shelter your child, you’re setting them up for failure. Schools need to recognize that competition encourages learning, and parents need to learn the facts. The odds of your child getting abducted while playing in your front yard are very low.
You can purchase Hara Estroff Marano’s book at Amazon, or Barnes and Noble for about $20.
