We get some strange people at my work during the night. Here’s some of the highlights from last night.
Before the highlights, I need some people for something new I’m doing. If you have a job in any retail setting (restaurant, gas station, department store, etc) please send an email to naresh@ragsites.com with some information about where you work. I’d love to get in touch!
The Highlights:
See you guys tomorrow. I’m showering and heading to work until 6AM
I was going to write an interesting post…with stats and stuff like that. Honestly though, I’m too tired to care about this damn post. I’ll write one when I wake up tonight. Or not…
I’m awake enough to finish this post. My first full shift was last night at my new job. Here’s some of the highlights:
I’m pretty sure my hashbrowns are burning. I’m going to go eat and sleep a little more before my 9PM-6AM shift.
After being unemployed for nearly a month, I finally got a new job. I’m working night shifts at a gas station about a block away from my house. Here’s a picture of my new job from Google Street View:
I worked yesterday afternoon and now understand how to use the register, and have started memorizing prices of the unmarked items (drinks, chips, cigarettes, etc). I also stocked the soda cooler yesterday.
Anyway, it’s time for me to go to bed. It’s only 7:30 AM, but I have to work from 9PM to 6AM tonight. I’ll see you around!
Wordpress has just been upgraded to the latest version. I know it came out a while ago, but I’m a lazy person. Sad, but true. I’ll be making a few modifications to it as well over the next few days. I’m working on a new wordperss plugin that will be released open source after it’s tested on my blog. I’ll give some details soon.
As I mentioned in the previous post, I’ve started offering computer repair in denver (blatant SEO link) and surrounding areas. I’ve found some awesome pieces of software, and great methods for performing such tuneups. I’m organizing this information, and should have a post completed shortly.
Also, my iPhone broke the other night. Whiskey made me drop it (a few times) and the touch screen quit working. I have a new phone now though, so feel free to get in touch. (303) 588-2376.
Mark Cole also wanted me to mention that I found my missing hamster. He turned up in the basement (and I live two floors up!) the other day. The little guy drank a quarter of his bottle of water. Poor guy.
Yesterday I posted an ad to craigslist offering a computer tuneup. I put a few ads up in my townhouse complex by the mailboxes, and even wrote my phone number and “Computer Tune Up” on my car windows.
Honestly, I didn’t expect a response at all on the first day. I thought I might get a call once a week at tops, and that would at least help me afford gas.
Wow, I was wrong. Very wrong.
I received 3 calls yesterday and finished two of the jobs. A hispanic family needed me to get their internet working before they could talk to their dying grandfather in mexico over webcam. I also am cleaning up a computer for another family. Halfway through a spyware scan, it had found 830 infections.
I woke up to a call from another a gentleman who wanted the tune up. That’s another $40 in my pocket. The tune up is fairly simple, but most people don’t understand how to do it themselves.
I let you know how this works out! I’m excited about the possibilities, and am going to continue posting ads on Craigslist.
Episode 2 of SleepyCast is available now!
From SleepyCast.com:
Welcome back for another episode of Sleepycast, folks! Fortunately, this episode features all of our hosts and a special guest! That’s Brad, Naresh, Mike, Rowan and our first ever guest, Tyler Meadus!
This episode covers a number of topics, including Facebook’s Open Source Platform, Mac OS X 10.5.3, Mibbit, and the new iPhone. We were excited to get another episode out in the open, so Naresh spent hours after our recording session last night editing this episode for you all to enjoy and laugh at.
Listen to it over at SleepyCast.com
Also, my good friend CurtisVallely released his new blog at CurtisVallely.com. While you’re at it, check out his Flickr and his Twitter.
I’ve been working at a large retail store for almost two years. I don’t want to get in trouble, so I’m not going to say which one. I’m trained in 8 different areas of the store, but have been working in the Pizza Hut express primarily as of late. I’m looking for another job because the hours I’m getting are not paying the bills.
I applied at a gas station a block away from my home on Monday and the interview went great. The manager was ready to hire me, and said I’d start that night. When the interview was over, he looked over my application one last time and said “This might be a problem”. The problem was that I’m 18, and the store sells liquor, which you have to be 21 to sell. Damnit.
Yesterday I drove around and picked up 15 different job applications for various places. I applied at Subway, Quiznos, Pizza Hut, Blackjack Pizza, Starbucks, and several different gas stations. I even applied at a shoe store in a moment of desperation. I filled them out last night and handed them all in today. I hope one pans out.
Just a funny side note, the Quiznos application has the url of Socrates.com on the bottom of the application. Socrates is a large legal form company similar to LegalZoom. The funny thing is that they had 4 w’s in the web address. You’d think they’d catch that before mailing out mass amounts of applications.
Wish me luck in my job search! If you work for a company in Colorado and they’re hiring, please send me a message from the sidebar.
Sorry the site was down for a few days. My hosting account was compromised by someone trying to get some PHP scripts from me. No, it wasn’t meebah/Jonathan Verhees so don’t give him shit about it. I’m not going into the details, but it’s taken care of.
I have a job interview tomorrow at 8AM. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Also, check out SleepyCast, a new tech podcast with myself, Brad Purchase, Rowan Henderson, and Mike Morris (AKA Skooj). We only have one episode so far, but are recording the second one shortly.
Talk to you later,
Naresh
I’ve been watching a lot of videos of David Sides playing piano on YouTube. Here’s one that caught my eye. It’s a mixture of Kanye West Songs
Most of you know that I’ve had a dispute with someone named Jonny Verhees (not sure about the spelling, I’m writing this on my phone). I took the post down today because of some comments on that post and some emails I’ve been receiving.
Let me make this clear. I may not like the guy, but you’ve taken things too far. Don’t post his password on my blog. Do not post any additional contact information either. I do not condone hacking, and do not wish to make things worse for him.
I know how it feels to have all your emails deleted (I lost my main account to a hacker a few months ago, and lost hundreds of thousands of emails). Anyone who posts his contact info, passwords, or other information will be banned. It’s over. eNaresh will not become a hate site. Cut the crap.
